Hi Guys,

My name is Mark Chaushev and I attended Birchgrove Primary School in 1969. I just came across alot of my old classmates from my time at Birchgrove. I noticed that back in 2008 many of you had a get together for a reunion at the Town Hall hotel in Balmain.

Unfortunately I did'nt hear anything about it and would have loved to have been there and to catch up with old friends who I grew up with at Birchy. The names came flooding back like Rita Kilazaklov, Debbie O'Shannassy, Rosie Mansouridis, Kerry Palmer, Leonie Middleton and Karen Arthur.

I know that they are really hard to track down now because they probably married and have name changes. But would love to hear from a few of you. If somebody comes across this message I would really appreciate it if you could pass this message on.

Thanks so much take care.

hi there, would be very interested in obtaining any information possible. My mother once resided in an old building which is ment to be exactly where Annandale Public School playground/sandpit is right now? She mentions that this was a home of which many families lived in at the time and that her and her parents (my grand parents) lived in the ballroom within this house. She also said that the old Johnston street gates were right out the front of this building. I really wish i knew the answers i have tried and tried and tried and have constantly hit a dead end. If anyone out there may have any knowledge of this building and could enlighten me with any further details, i would be forever grateful!! Mum also recalls that her and her friends would refer to it as 'the haunted house', if that helps?

Hi Geoff
It was in Osborne House.
The story as you have said it is almost word for word as I know it.
The location of the shop was 320 Euston Rd London.
Even to this day, the Royals use Euston Rd as the entrance to the Palace via the back gate because they only use the front entrance for very special occasions as they have to close off half of London to use it.

Please email me, we need to talk.

Hi Jamie, it's so inteersting to find this site as John Roebuck (b. 1815) is my 3rd great grandfather (through his daughter Ann). You mention above that you have a photo of John and Sarah (nee Leach) plus horses taken in around 1870 - I would love to see a copy of that photo if you'd be willing to share it.

Also, the story circulating in my family was that Eliza (one of Frederick's older sisters) was standing outside the workshop one day (I don't know when or the location of the workshop, though he was living in St Pancras area in 1861) when Queen Victoria was driven up, asked to see her father, and asked him to make a replica of one of her famous 'greys' which was done and was said to be still in Buckingham Palace. An earlier enquiry at the Palace didn't produce any more details. If you've gone any related information I'd be really interested to know it. Many thanks.

After some time George Ashbury and I worked on the final Concert grand built in this factory. All around now were Admiral TV cabinets being put together and sewing machine cabinets where most of the design and templates for drilling and assembly had been carried out by other depts.

Now was the time for me to leave and find a job more suited to my ability.
This was when the Elizabethan Thrt/Trust Building burnt to the ground ,Being in the area that day I went to site the damage. Of course the Grand Piano was destroyed.

Maxwell E Lowe JP.AAMI.AIEE.
March 7 2013
I remember the floors were covered in thick steel plate to allow the Piano's to be moved with ease to and fro especially to the lift between floors. The mechanism that powered the lift was water powered with a heavy rope to open and close the water valve below.

These floors were kept spotless so to move the piano's around.
Once the iron flames were bolted to the heavy timber forming the sounding board. The ends of the unit were fixed in place and moved on to the next area being the action and key board
once this was done the instrument came to the FLY FINISHING DEPT.
At this point the Key BLocks were cut and fitted with other components . Red felt was adhered to various areas as required.
As the entire components were fully polished at this time. Your white cotten apron was reversed and worn backwards so glue on the apron would not scratch the finished unit.

Greeted by my foreman ( George Ashbury.) on the foor where I had left my tools and began working as before .( In THE FLY FINISHING DEPT.). this work involved the Finishing of the cabinet work after leaving the initial turning room that was adjacent to my work bench area.
